As one of the oldest settlements in the Mediterranean, Izmir offers plenty of historical and cultural places for participants to visit. As they discover the ancient ruins, old towns, museums, markets, churches and mosques, they will learn with and from one another as they experience this rich and diverse culture.
Located between the mountains and the Argean sea, it is also a place of natural beauty, offering opportunities for us to be at one with nature, as well as with each another, as we explore the countryside, hills and breaches. This will provide a beautiful backdrop to the mix of collaborative sports and games, hands-on learning experiences and artistic expression as we learn about protecting our environment and natural resources.
With its mild and sunny climate, clean air and many hot springs, Izmir is known as a “Place of Wellness” and a perfect place for us to focus on SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. Our hosts have chosen to raise awareness of this, and of SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, with activities aimed at understanding and addressing issues within the community, and working together to find solutions and make an impact.
With so much to offer, and planning still ongoing, this promises to be a fun, interesting and insightful programme, full of wonderful educational experiences for us all to share.
