What a fantastic start to the week at Montessori College, Nijmegen. The Sustainable Development Games officially kicked off today with a burst of energy, color, and connection.

The event was officially opened in an inspiring way by Tobias van Elferen, the Commissioner for Sustainability of Nijmegen, Léon Lucas, Headmaster of Montessori College, and Riemer Brandsma, the former Climate Mayor of Wageningen. Their powerful words set the tone for the days ahead, encouraging everyone to take action, embrace international friendship, and work together for a more sustainable future.

Their powerful speeches reminded us all of the importance of climate action, youth engagement, and international cooperation — setting a meaningful tone for the week ahead.

Right after, cultural sharing took center stage. Every country brought a piece of their heritage by performing and teaching a traditional dance. The room was alive with music, movement, and laughter — a true celebration of our global community.

Afterward, we headed into the forest near the school, where everyone enjoyed a relaxed lunch, played games, and spent time getting to know each other better in nature.

The day ended with a magical Cultural Market, where participants shared traditional snacks, drinks, gifts, and crafts from their countries. Host families joined in too, getting a delicious and heartwarming taste of the world. It was an unforgettable day filled with dancing, generosity, inspiration, and new friendships.

Tomorrow we dive into SDG 13: Climate Action and explore the beautiful city of Nijmegen together.

PEACE,
