On Sunday 6th October, we will welcome more than 130 young people and educators to Sofia, Bulgaria, to participate in sporting, educational and cultural activities that are fun and collaborative, and that encourage them to they learn with and from one another.
Our host schools, Bulgarsko Shkolo & 191 OU Otets Paisii, have collaborated to create a fun and engaging programme that goes beyond just playing sports, but allow participates to explore the city and surrounding area of Sofia, where they will learn about the local history, geography, and nature through working and playing in the local mountains, forests and lakes.
They have also chosen to focus on SDG 15: Life on Land, with hands-on activities that raise awareness and offer varied practical outdoor learning opportunities to experience working with nature sustainably, as they plant trees and care for the environment, build bird houses to help protect native species.
As well as experiencing Bulgarian culture and customs, we look forward to learning about other countries and their cultures, as we welcome participants from Italy, Spain, Turkey, China, India, The Netherlands, Germany, Scotland, Bolivia and Nigeria (who are to be our first representatives from Africa).
This promises to be yet another amazing event for all involved, a celebration of international friendship and cultural understanding, as well as a great example peace education through shared experience!
