Last week we held the first Sustainable Development Games, where we welcomed 146 people from 8 countries to Drøbak Montessori, for what would prove to be an amazing experience for all!

The student SDG Committee created an engaging programme, and from the very first moments, young people came together and made meaningful connections through sports and fun challenges, where they had to collaborate, communicate and have lots of fun.

All participants would then learn and work together through activities that focused on Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water. They got hands-on experience of what the Oslofjord has to offer, as well as immersing themselves in the challenges that it faces.

Culture Evening was an opportunity for each group to share snacks, gifts and clothing from their own country and it was great to get a taste of all the different cultures. It was clearly very popular with students, who all enjoyed eating, sharing, singing and dancing, while learning more about each other.

We also enjoyed a hiking trip on the beautiful Håøya Island, where we played sports, made a barbecue and harvested local seaweed, as a sustainable way to find lunch. This was followed by a trip to the Munch Museum and Statue Park when we visited Norway’s capital, Oslo.

This amazing week was concluded with the Closing Party; an evening filled with fun activities and lots of dancing that one student described as “The best night of my life!” It was an emotional event that ended with hugs, tears and promises to stay connected.

It was beautiful to see the friendships started, life-long memories made and noticeable growth in all who participated, and we would like to thank everyone involved for making it possible.

This first installment was a huge success, and we look forward to seeing you at the next one.
