The Global Montessori Games is an international gathering for students and educators, created to celebrate community, cultural exchange, and joyful learning through movement and shared activity. Next year, we are delighted to be hosted by Morningside Montessori for the fourth installment of our elementary GMG, and to experience the beautiful and historically rich island of Cyprus.
Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean, Cyprus is a living classroom where history, culture, and nature converge. Staying in the peaceful suburb of Latsia, just minutes form the capital, we’ll be perfectly positioned to discover the island’s stunning landscapes and vibrant traditions.
Participants will explore ancient ruins that tell stories of civilizations, participate in hands-on activities and traditions, and hike through stunning national parks — all while forming lifelong friendships with peers from around the world.
These activities will include visiting the pristine beaches to play sports and games, and clean-up the coastline, as we promote sustainability, hiking through the mountains to find the ancient amfitheater and learn about local history and visiting the Buffer-zone to learn about the more recent past and promote peace and equality. During the time when Cyprus holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, working together for peace and prosperity is perfect example of the importance to promote connection across cultures.
This event is more than games; it’s a unique opportunity for young people to grow into a confident, compassionate global citizens, gaining invaluable cultural and educational experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. Built around a series of collaborative, non-competitive sporting, educational and cultural activities designed to foster teamwork, cultural understanding, and mutual respect, it offers a natural platform for students from different backgrounds to learn from one another, share their own traditions, and build a sense of peace global citizenship.
