Our hosts at Montessori College Nijmegen have already selected their Student Committee, who are working hard to create a fun and interesting programme that is full of hands-on activities that raise awareness of their chosen Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – Goal 13: Climate Action.
Being one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, and a previous winner of Europe’s Greenest City, Nijmegen is a perfect place to learn history and sustainability through a city tour and visiting the local river, lakes, parks and green spaces. We will be joined by our partners at Han University’s Green Office in offering sustainable actions that promote the protection of nature and water sources, and help to clean and care for areas of natural beauty.
We will also collaborate with Oxfam Novib and discover The Netherlands’ four main areas of climate interventions: renewable energy, land use and forests, water management, and climate-resilient agriculture. Together, we will explore the surrounding forests, learn about the local species of plants and animals and cooperate in activites aimed at conserving their sustainable futures.
When we visit the Amsterdam, we will take action to address one of the world’s most challenging issues – plastic waste. Our partners at Plastic Whale will lead participants down the city’s canals to clean the waterways of discarded plastic and demonstrate how they can be reimagined and recycled in to valuable, functional new resources.
There will be many other activities that focus of shared learning through sporting, educational and cultural experiences, as well as sustainable development, and as the event planning continues, we will soon be sharing a Provisional Programme.
We look forward to welcoming young people and educators from all over the world, and working together toward building a better, more sustainable future. Afterall, Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals, is what will allow us to achieve all of the others.
Look out for more updates.
