A Milestone Reached

When we started this journey in 2018, we could not have imagined how far it would take us, or how many hearts it would touch. What began as an idea to bring Montessori schools together through sport, education, and shared culture has now grown into something truly global.

Ten events later, we have gathered at schools in the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Mexico, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Chile. Each brought its own stories, landscapes, and traditions. In every place, we witnessed the same spark: curiosity, kindness, and a sense of wonder that transcends borders.

• Children discovering the joy of teamwork
• Teenagers exploring new cultures and friendships
• Teachers and school leaders learning side by side

At every event, new friendships were born, sometimes between students or educators, sometimes between entire families. We have seen laughter over shared meals, dancing that needed no translation, and conversations that went on long after the day’s activities ended.

Some of these friendships have grown into reunions, holiday visits, and even lifelong connections between parents. It is proof that what we are building together goes far beyond a single week. It becomes part of people’s lives.

And none of this would have been possible without the generosity of host families, opening their hearts and homes to students from other countries. They offer more than just a bed to sleep in; they offer belonging. Their warmth and care have created safe spaces where children from around the world truly feel at home.

Through these ten gatherings, we have seen the Montessori spirit come alive: learning by doing, by choosing, by experiencing. We have watched children grow, not only in skill, but in confidence, empathy, and awareness. In every activity, the essence of peace education has been present – learning to understand, respect, and collaborate across cultures. Each event leaves behind more than memories; it leaves behind a stronger global community.

Among all those who have inspired us on this journey, Judith Cunningham and the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) stand out as guiding lights. It was through MMUN that the seed of the Global Montessori Games was planted. Judith’s lifelong dedication to peace education and her boundless belief in young people helped shape what GAMES has become. We are endlessly grateful for her friendship and support.

Of course, behind every journey there are people who quietly make it possible: our families, friends, and colleagues. Thank you for your patience, for holding things together at home, and for believing in the power of what we do, even when we are far away.

Now, having reached over 3,000 participants, we look back with gratitude, and forward with excitement.

The next chapters are already taking shape, with new editions of the Elementary Global Montessori Games, the Global Montessori Games, and the Sustainable Development Games on the horizon.

Each a new opportunity for children and educators to meet, to learn, and to grow together.

Maria Montessori once said, “Help me to do it myself.”

In every child we have met, we have seen the truth of that message – the courage to explore, the joy of independence, and the beauty of learning together.

Ten events, countless moments, and one shared vision:
to connect the world, one meaningful experience at a time.

With heartfelt gratitude,

PEACE,
